The Apeldoorn Hotel

01-11-2007 - The cellar of this hotel accommodates a pub.
Unfortunately, this room has no windows, so all you see is yellow walls.
The principal wanted the typical British atmosphere to come out in the murals.

By painting a large window with a view of the Houses of Parliament, Govert achieved enormous depth in the cellar.
This depth is even increased by leading the road over the bridge right up to the window, and having an old double-decker drive through the wall!
The existing colours in the room, English red and warm yellow, are also used in the painting.
The work was painted on panels in Govert’s studio and later on installed against the walls of the English pub.
